The Director
Multimedia artist, poet and director, Sion Sono uses all available means. Through his multiple activities, he takes a brutal and caustic look on contemporary Japanese society. He was also seen as the leader of the Tokyo Gagaga collective in Otaku, Jean-Jacques Beineix's 1994 documentary on Japanese post-modernism.

The film
One morning, 54 cheerful schoolgirls kill themselves by jumping under a train. Suicides increase; the Tokyo police are completely distraught. But then, directed by a mysterious informer, they discover an Internet website inciting its visitors to collective suicide. Suicide Club deals with one of the most taboo topics in our society, in an offbeat manner which may not be to everyone's taste. Yet the audience leaves the cinema strangely moved and concerned. Gory and funny yet relevant, this film teaches us a good lesson in morals and civility.
